30-year Reunion

Class of 1979

It was the summer of 2009 and we were gathering for the 30 year  reunion of the class of '79. Some of us wondered if it was really possible for 30 years to already have passed since graduation. One comment from a former classmate was, "Surely, you must mean 13 years!"  When you are making those life decisions in your senior year you may find it hard to imagine where you may be thirty years from graduation.

We gathered at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Pavilion on Saturday, July 11 to remember things from the seventies and catch up on where we are now. One of the highlights from the afternoon was the test to see how much we remembered or how much we knew about some of our classmates now.  Jimmy Carter was president , gas was $.86 per gallon, milk $1.62, the cost of a new home was $71,800 and the Rubik's Cube was introduced. Anyone solve it yet?

We sadly recognized the passing of a former classmate, Heather Derstine Schnable, who passed away in April 2006 from cancer. Some of us have moved into the next stage of our life and have become grandparents. Many of us are parents raising our children through school, all at different stages.

This year we compiled a booklet to catch up with each other.  Who would've known how many places we have lived in 30 years or how many places some of us have traveled to.

We will gather in five years to celebrate 35 years since we walked through the auditorium to receive our diplomas. We will remember again, we will laugh, possibly cry and always be a part of this same group - the Class of 79.
